
Andrea L. Shurtliffe - Artistic Director
Andrea Shurtliffe was named the Artistic Director of the Cheektowaga Community Chorus in 2007. She brought with her a varied repertoire of musical experiences and has taken the chorus in new directions. A Pennsylvania native, Ms. Shurtliffe was an active choral conductor, teacher and performer in Pittsburgh until relocating to the Buffalo area with her family.
While in Pittsburgh, Ms. Shurtliffe served as a professional core member and soloist of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. She has taught music and directed choirs and musical theater in high schools throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland for nearly 10 years. Her most recent position was in the Riverview School District in Oakmont, Pennsylvania where she directed the Elementary, Jr. High, High School Concert and Chamber Choirs.
In February of 2007, Ms. Shurtliffe was invited to serve as the guest conductor of the Champlain Valley District III Honors Choir near Burlington, Vermont. A graduate of Penn State University, she holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and has continued her study at Duquesne University and The Eastman School of Music. She returned to Penn State each summer for 10 years to teach at the annual Summer Music Camp where she served as the soprano section leader, directed a chamber choir, and taught courses in Choral Musicianship and Musical Theater.
In 1999 she was awarded first prize in the Pennsylvania ACDA Conducting Competition and in 2004 presented a reading session for other High School choral directors at the ACDA Eastern Division Conference, in Boston, Massachusetts.
As a Western New Yorker, Andrea has sung with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora, both as soprano
