Andrea L. Shurtliffe

Andrea Shurtliffe joined the Cheektowaga Community Chorus as the Artistic Director in 2007 from a varied repertoire of musical experiences.  A Pennsylvania native, Ms. Shurtliffe was an active choral conductor, teacher and performer in Pittsburgh until relocating to the Buffalo area in 2007.  While in Pittsburgh, Ms. Shurtliffe served as a professional core member and soloist for the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh.  She has taught music, directed choirs and musical theater productions in high schools throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland for 8 years.  Her most recent position was in the Riverview School District in Oakmont, Pennsylvania where she directed the Elementary, Jr. High, High School Concert and Chamber Choirs.  In February of 2007, Ms. Shurtliffe was invited to serve as  the guest conductor of the Champlain Valley District III Honors Choir near Burlington, Vermont.  A graduate of Penn State University, she holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and has continued her study at Duquesne University and The Eastman School of Music.  She returns to Penn State each summer to teach at their annual Summer Music Camp where she serves as the soprano section leader, directs a chamber choir, and teaches courses in Choral Musicianship and Musical Theater. She is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). In 1999 she was awarded first prize in the Pennsylvania ACDA Conducting Competition and in 2004 presented a reading session for other High School choral directors at the ACDA Eastern Division Conference, in Boston, Massachusetts.  She currently sings with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus where she serves as the soprano section principal in addition to her duties with the Cheektowaga Community Chorus.
